He told us he ran into the R&B legend earlier this year and got a solid approval from him. He then reminded me of why I fell in love with R&B by singing GRAMMY winner Maxwell's 2009 hit, "Pretty Wings." Everyone gazed at Daley with amazement because his vocals were so similar to Maxwell's. He started with Chaka Khan's classic "Sweet Thing." As I watched him passionately sing in falsetto, I knew this was going to be a night to remember. These were the days when R&B music was solely about being crazy in love. Then Daley did the unthinkable: he took us back to the familiar old-school R&B era. Everything about "Look Up" will put you in a lighter mood, from the banging beat to the soft smooth vocals. I call this type of song "feel-good" music.

He went on to sing his latest Pharrell Williams-produced track, "Look Up," and the crowd went crazy. It's refreshing to hear lyrics that are so relatable. Sometimes we just have to be patient: "I'm waiting/'Cause I know I'm gonna be next in line/To claim my prize, and be all that I wanna be/I work so hard to earn my place/And good things come to those who wait."ĭaley definitely has a way of turning a positive message into a beautiful melody. The lyrics are truly inspiring and give me hope that certain circumstances can change with time. In "Those Who Wait" Daley expresses his journey to success and how he overcame obstacles to get where he is today. I have always felt emotionally connected with this particular song because I can relate to it. After kicking off the concert with a strong number, he sang "Those Who Wait," one of my favorite songs from his 2012 EP, Alone Together. The show was completely sold out.ĭaley opened with "Remember Me," which had the crowd swaying side to side and singing along. After claiming a good spot, I noticed the room filling up by the second. I arrived early at the Viper Room in West Hollywood and immediately made my way to the front of the stage. It was his first performance in L.A., so I knew it would be a packed house. When I first heard Daley was making a stop in Los Angeles on his Look Up tour, I screamed with excitement knowing that I would finally experience this soulful, talented and beautiful singer perform live.

There’s a melancholy tone but the lyrics have a rejoiceful, hopeful narration.Welcome to The Set List. There are curve balls that change your perception, and that’s what ‘Run’ is to me. You’re supposed to have plans but rules are made to be broken and plans change, all the time. I feel like people get so caught up in who they think they’re supposed to be. I had to run towards something bigger and better. It was that wake up call, that this could not be my life. I kept hearing – ‘What am I running from, what am I running towards? It was run away from the pain I feel now.’ Everything that I thought I was reaching for brought me down. I remember sitting behind the piano and it’s like (the song) wrote itself. The first single is the moody, yet inspirational “Run.” According to Marsha, "Run" was not intended to be a single, but instead was “just a magical moment in the studio. When discussing the collaboration, Marsha joyfully offers, “I’ve been privileged to be under great wings that have allowed me to shine.” Dre, which is a remake of Sade’s “Stronger Than Pride.” The track, produced by Marsha, is the perfect combination of soul and hip-hop. The sixteen-track album plays host to a variety of standout records including the hip-hop flavored “Stronger” featuring Dr. Produced and written by Marsha, Friends & Lovers features collaborations with Charlie Wilson, Skye and Lindsey Sterling. Marsha Ambrosius will unleash her next tale of love and life through the release of her sophomore solo album, Friends & Lovers. Whether it’s as one half of Floetry, on her chart-topping solo debut Late Nights & Early Mornings or her career as an acclaimed songwriter /producer, her observations on love and life paired with her soulful and honest vocals flip the personal into a universal truth. Multi-Grammy® nominated musician Marsha Ambrosius knows a little something about writing great songs. It’s an exploration into and embracing of longing, passion, remorse, romance, friendship, love, pain, happiness and everything that falls in between. A great song takes you on an emotional journey.
